Summary:

One position is open for highlymotivated Veterinary Technologist in the Batista Lab at the RagonInstitute of MGH, MIT and Harvard. The primaryresponsibilities will include mouse management for experiments, includingadoptive transfers, immunizations, blood and tissue harvesting, and breeding. The successful candidate must be highly organized, self motivatedand have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The positionoffers an exceptional opportunity for scientific growth, particularly in highthroughput vaccine development, with access to cutting-edge facilities and aterrific work environment.

Job Duties:

  • Routine handling, restraint, identification (including ear notching, tagging, tattooing, and toe clipping) and sexing of common laboratory animals. Ability to distinguish various common laboratory animal strains in accordance with standardized genetic nomenclature and phenotype identification.
  • Perform mouse in vivo animal procedures, including adoptive transfers and infection/immunization studies via different routes, for example intranasal, intravenous, intraperitoneal, sub-cutaneous etc.
  • Computer experience in common Microsoft applications is required.
  • Maintain records and inventory of all immunogens, infectious agents, equipment and supplies.
  • Will work in collaboration with lab personnel.
  • Essential ScientificQualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • A BA/BS in AnimalScience or related life science required.

  • Laboratory AnimalTechnician preferred.

  • 1-2 years of workexperience in small animal studies in academia or industry preferred.

  • Previousexperience working with infectious agents (BSL-2 level) would be helpful butnot required. In-house training will be provided prior to working in BSL-2areas.

  • Enthusiasm anddrive to establish novel experimental techniques pertaining to the project.

  • Exceptionalorganizational skills and excellent attention to details.

  • Maintain detailedlab notebook documenting all experimental work.

  • Must communicate regularlyand effectively with team members and supervisor.

  • Proficiencyand/or demonstrated ability to learn various computer software platforms.

  • Some occasionalevening/weekend flexibility may be required.

  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity and reliability.

  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.

  • Should have good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
