This Finance Business Partner position supports the Medical Affairs organization of Sanofi-Genzyme, with a focus on accounting and forecasting for key activities for the US Medical Affairs organization.

The position reports to the Head of Finance for Sanofi Genzyme Medical Affairs and is based in Cambridge, MA.

The primary responsibilities will be to execute controlling activities and act as the trusted finance business partner of some key therapeutic areas of the US Medical organization.

The scope of work will encompass headcount and OPEX controlling, budgeting and forecasting, Month-end Close accounting reporting and analysis and alliance reporting related to external collaborations.

Business Partnership, Operating Expense Controlling and Compliance

Becoming the trusted finance interlocutor of the Managers of the supported areas.

  • Own communication around month end close calendar, deadlines and deliverables.
  • Conduct financial reviews of budgets and spending to identify, assess and investigate budget variances, presenting and commenting on financial performance, staffing and other key financial metrics on a regular basis.
  • Build and maintain KPIs to guide the Business Partners in managing their budget.
  • Responsible for managing the day to day Medical Operations expenses, including review and approval of Purchase Orders of project related initiatives and outsourced services according to Sanofi Governance and Compliance processes.
  • Monitoring of spending at alliance level for external collaborations
  • Headcount and OPEX Budgeting and Forecasting:

    Responsible for working in close relationship with the management teams in the development of annual operating budget, forecasts and long range plan.

  • Submission including Headcount and related expenses as well as medical tactics and program costs.
  • Variance analysis and commentary, suggestion to reach targets.
  • Data validation and submission in Finance systems, generating reports and comments for senior management presentations
  • Contribution to the elaboration of the alliance planning and forecast in line with internal drivers and submission.
  • Month End Close Accounting and Reporting

    Responsible for performing month-end close accounting activities and reporting requirements in relation with the Medical Affairs and the US controlling teams (running some of the closing activities across all perimeters) and in compliance with all applicable accounting standards, statutory and corporate reporting requirements and timelines.

  • Booking and Validation of journal entries, preparing account reconciliations
  • Monitoring and validation of accruals for on-going financial commitments in relation with the business partners and support groups.
  • Month-end commentary and reporting package for the Sanofi US finance team
  • Costs tracking and reporting with Sanofi-Genzyme strategic partners.

    Part of the US activities are related to products being managed joint with external partners, The main tasks will be to provide support to the Finance person in charge of the Alliance Management for Medical affairs:

  • Provide US tactics and program details and analysis for actuals, forecast and budget reported at alliance level
  • Perform monthly reconciliation between alliance reporting and internal P&L
  • Headcount tracking for resources shared with the external partner.
  • Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years in business finance experience, with emphasis on financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and month end close
  • BS in Accounting/Finance required; CPA or MBA a plus
  • Open minded and team player. Ability to perform in a matrix organization, interact easily with other finance groups and functions.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP and TM1/Boost or other reporting solution is critical
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel (reporting automation) and power point required
  • Strong accounting skills; Internal Controls
